If a tenant reports that their unit light will not wake up after tapping it:
- Ensure that they are pressing their palm against the light for 5-10 seconds. Some lights (especially exterior units) require additional pressure to register that the light has been touched.
If the light stays greyed out, then the battery likely needs to be flushed or replaced. The steps for this process are as follows:
Direct the tenant to retrieve the battery removal tool from the office (this should be inside the counter compartment). See below.
Have the tenant affix the battery tool along the outer edge of latch and slide it backward until the ends hook the latch.
While holding the tool into place, press firmly against the battery compartment to make it release.
Remove the battery from the latch, and wait 10 seconds.
Slide the battery back into the compartment, wait 10 seconds, then attempt to wake the unit again. If it remains greyed out, then the battery must be replaced.
